Carlsberg boss rejects investments in Asia 20.02.2004 | news Knud Brix
The COE of the Carlsberg group, Nils Smedegaard Andersen has revealed that the brewery’s lewel of investments in Asia will be low in the foreseeable future. Carlsberg is going through restructurings in Asia, since last weeks shut of the Wang Noi brewery and break with Thai whiskey tycoon Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi.
“There will be no Big Bang in Asia from our side”, was the words from Smedegaard Andersen, about Carlsberg’s future investment in Asia, in addition to the publication of the company’s 2003 result on Wednesday 18 of February. Carlsberg came out of 2003 with at result before tax of 2.7 billion DKK.
The satisfactory result was overshadowed by the news that The Carlsberg Foundation had bought out Norwegian conglomerate Orkla out. A long dispute about the strategy of Carlsberg breweries made the foundation pay an amount of 14,8 billion DKK for Orkla's 40 pct. share hold.
